Camera unit of the LDWS processes below function with the video signal inputted

The lane departure warning system transmits The information using high speed CAN communication.
1.
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) unit

The lane departure warning system is a convenient device to recognize the lanes ahead with the camera image and vehicle signal information and to alarm against the deviation from the lane. It includes the camera unit and recognizes the lane by calculating the input camera image signal.
The sensor module for screen image processing by sensing the lane ahead on the camera unit senses the lane to keep the lane and calculates the key parameters, i.e. vehicle center offset, road width, vehicle driving angle and road curvature. The following procedures are the lane recognizing process through screen image processing.

Sensing the land in procedure of Inputting the road image

Filtering calculation emphasizing the lane
(3)
Extraction of the lane candidate point (The constituent points which are estimated as lane)
(4)
Sensing the land by means of candidate point

LDWS Operation process
When the LDWS switch is pressed, the operation state of the lane departure warning system is displayed at the center while the LDWS lamp is on.
The specific classification of the displays is shown in the following table.

LDWS ON/OFF switch
When the LDWS switch is pressed, the LDWS is on while the LDWS lamp is on. When the switch is pressed again, the LDWS is off and the display lamp is off.

High Beam Auto Control Switch: High Beam Auto Control System is turned ON if the Multifunction Switch Light SW is set to AUTO, and the Light SW is set to High Beam position (Pushed).

If the Light SW is not set to AUTO, or to High Beam position, the High Beam Auto Control System is turned OFF.

The alarm method of LDWS
1.
Visual alarm : The lane to the direction of departure is blinked in yellow.
The operating conditions of LDWS
The operating conditions of LDWS is as below.
1.
The switch for LDWS shall be ON. The LDWS lamp is on in the instrument panel when the switch is on.
2.
It operates when the LDWS function is set and beyond 70km/h (44mph) of vehicle speed.
The alarming function is stopped tentatively when the vehicle speed is lower than 65~70km/h (41~44mph) and the alarming is restarted when it is over 70km/h (44mph).
3.
It does not alarm when the left and right lamps are operated to inform the lane change.
The departure alarming function is restarted after 2 seconds from switching off the left and right direction lamps.
The lane departure alarming function is stopped when the emergency lamp is operated as well.
4.
Operate the switch for direction lamp and change the lane to change the lane. The random changing of the lane without operating the direction lamp to the driving direction generates the alarming.
5.
When more than 40% of the vehicle is crossed the lane, the alarming is released by sensing as departure for lane change.
6.
The lane departure alarming is not made when the vehicle drives at the center of the lane.
   
Use caution in the following conditions because the LDWS may not be operated normally.
-
When the lane is not so visible by the rain, snow, dust, puddle and other foreign materials
-
When the sight is unclear by the bad weather such as fog/heavy rain/heavy snow
-
When the solar beam, street lamp or the light from the approaching car are reflected on the wet surface of the road
-
When the brightness is changed abruptly by exiting from the tunnel
-
When the back light is illuminated strongly against the vehicle direction
-
When the headlamp is not use or the light beam is too weak in the night or inside the tunnel
-
When the lane is not distinctive and the road is damaged
-
When the shadow of median strip covers the lane
-
When the lane and road are not distinguished by the dusts on the lane
-
When there are more than 2 lanes to the left or right such as the exclusive road of the bus
-
In the winding road or steep road
-
When there are signs other than the lane near to the lane or similar sign (Ex: Arrow) with the lane
-
When there is a boundary structure such as the sidewalk block
-
When the windshield or LDWS camera lens are contaminated with the moisture or foreign material
-
When the distance to the front car is extremely short or the front car is driving by covering the lane
-
When the vehicle is extremely disturbed
-
In the section of diverging or converging lane or complicated crossing of the lane (Ex: Interchange and tollgate)
-
When the object is placed on the dashboard
-
Arrow on the road surface
-
When the lane is too narrow or too wide
-
When the color of the lane and road is not clear
-
When the temperature around the room mirror is very high by the direct sunlight
-
When the LDWS doest not sense the color of the lane by the surrounded lighting
(Ex: Inside the tunnel, the section of natrium lamps in the night and raining)
-
When the sight is bad enough not to sense the other lanes
   
-
This system does not operate when the vehicle speed is under 70km/h (44mph) or the lane marking is not sensed.
-
Do not get the windshield tinted and do not put the sticker or accessories around the room mirror.
-
Use caution for the LDWS not to be contacted with water.
-
Do not disassemble or impact on the LDWS parts randomly.
-
Do not place the reflective material (White paper or mirror) on the dashboard. The malfunctioning may be caused by the sunlight reflection.
-
The excessive noise may disturb the hearing of the LDWS alarming sound.
