Hyundai Azera: ESCL(Electronic Steering Column Lock) Repair procedures

Removal

1.	Disconnect the negative(-) battery terminal.

2.	Remove the crash pad lower panel. (Refer to Body - "Crash Pad Lower Panel")

3.	Remove the steering column upper and lower shrouds. (Refer to Steering System - "Steering Column and Shaft")

4.	Disconnect the electronic steering column lock connector (A).

Remove the electronic steering column lock after removing the shear bolts.

Using a suitable tool, cut slots into the heads of the shear bolts.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from flying bits of metal.

Wear work gloves to protect your hands from any sharp metal edges on the shear bolt.

Installation

Install the electronic steering column lock (A).

Do not reuse the shear bolts.

When installing the new shear bolts to the electronic steering column lock, tighten the shear bolts until its head is cut off.

Tightening torque :

7 ~ 13 N.m (0.7 ~ 1.3 kgf.m, 5 ~ 9.4 lb.ft)

2.	Install the steering column.

3.	Install the crash pad lower panel.
